I got the idea for this painting while peeling an orange in Ukraine. There is an old-wives tale that says if you peel an apple in one piece and throw the peel over your shoulder you will see the initials of your lover. As I was doing that I was thinking about how separated we are from the natural sources in our lives, and what it would be like if the closest children got to an orange were peeling a can of orange soda. |
